JOY ABAQUIN FORD
For the last decade, Joy served the City of Redondo Beach as a civil and criminal prosecutor. As Redondo Beach’s Quality of Life Prosecutor, Joy focuses on homelessness, public nuisances, health and safety violations, illegal businesses and other issues impacting the quality of life in Redondo Beach.
Joy grew up in the South Bay area, serving her community in a number of ways. She was involved with her church in various activities, including teaching kids ages three to thirteen. She volunteered with the YMCA as a camp counselor and a lifeguard. In college and law school, Joy tutored and mentored underrepresented high school and college students to help them graduate and achieve their professional goals. Every year, Joy is invited back to her college and law school to meet students and share her experiences as an attorney and a prosecutor.
Currently, Joy is volunteering with Zonta Club South Bay, a chapter of an international organization that supports women’s rights. They provide resources and support to the 1736 Family Crisis Center, a local multi-service organization aligned with the goals of Zonta to end violence against women and girls, and to empower women and girls to build better lives.
When she has free time, Joy loves to sing karaoke. She was a part of a number of choirs and musical groups growing up. She hopes to pass this love for music onto her children.
Joy received a B.A. from UC Berkeley and a J.D. from UC Davis. In law school, she met her husband, Samuel Ford, a trust and estates attorney in the South Bay. Joy is the proud mother of Zyden and Jalon. Zyden attended TK at Madison Elementary where Joy was a PTA volunteer, a Redondo Beach Educational Foundation (RBEF) advocate, a Yearbook docent and a Hands on Art docent. Jalon attended TK at Jefferson Elementary where Joy was a PTA volunteer. Both kids now attend Washington Elementary where Joy is the Lead Advocate for RBEF and a PTA volunteer.
